Things to Do in the Canary Islands: Canary Island Holidays are popular all year round but are especially popular now for last minute holidays and also for Winter Sun Holidays.
Situated just off the coast of Africa, the Canary Islands benefit from year round sunshine.
There are 13 islands in total but the most popular include Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and La Palma.
Each island has its own characteristics but we’ve compiled a list below of a few ideas of things to see and do on the Canary Islands.
MOUNTAINS – TEIDE NATIONAL PARK – TENERIFE
The Teide National Park was declared a World Heritage Site in 2007 and includes its highest mountain Mount Teide which is a staggering 12,98ft high.
An extinct volcano, the summit can be reached by cable car and provides a wonderful view of the island from the top!
WATERSPORTS - WINDSURFING & KITESURFING – FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura has over 150 golden beaches to choose from, many of which are ideal for a spot of windsurfing or kitesurfing.
World Windsurfing competitions are held on the beach here each year.
NIGHTLIFE - CARNIVALS – TENERIFE
Tenerife has a lively nightlife centering around Playa de Las Americas but it also holds Carnivals every year which are worth visiting.

The main carnivals are in February and March – the most famous being the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival in February.
VOLCANOES – CALDERA DE TABURIENTE – LA PALMA
Caldera de Taburiente is one of the biggest and most fertile volcanic craters in the world.
Hiking is popular here, with many people visiting Mirador de la Cumbrecita with it’s wonderful views over La Palma, nicknamed ‘the beautiful island’.
Also worth exploring is the charming capital of La Palma, Santa Cruz.
ART – THE ATTRACTIONS OF CESAR MANRIQUE – LANZAROTE
Cesar Manrique, the renowned local Lanzarote artist was a sculptor, painter and architect and had great influence on modern art in the area.
He also convinced the local government to not allow the building of high rise buildings, therefore preserving the beauty of the island.
There are several visitor attractions on Lanzarote detailing his work, including Jameos del Agua and Jardin de Cactus.

SIGHTSEEING – LAS PALMAS – GRAN CANARIA
Las Palmas is the capital of Gran Canaria and is located between two bays.
A great place for sightseeing, Las Palmas has cobbled streets, a lovely beach, noble mansions, the Casa de Colon, Columbus House, Pueblo Canario, museums, a cathedral and market, plus 122 miles of coastline if sightseeing is not your thing!
